EM Performance Smith Chart is a Windows application to visualize the S-parameters of electric circuits, transmission lines, microwave networks and electromagnetic wave propagation. Input can be imported from Touchstone formatted files, and S-parameters are automatically calculated from arbitrary Y or Z networks and from 2-port H or G networks. Data can be stored as projects with extension .sch, exported in a Touchstone file, saved as a png image (for Professional Editions), printed on paper or saved as a pdf document With line visibility dialog user can choose which elements of the S-parameters matrix are visible and assign colors and thicknesses for corresponding lines. The complex impedance can be examined interactively by placing a mark with cursor at the points of interest. Data can be stored as a project with extension .sch, exported in a Touchstone file, as a png image (for Professional editions), printed on paper or saved as a pdf document. User can choose white, black or gray background, with various colors for Smith Chart grid and annotation text fonts. The Demo version is free and can be freely distributed. Single user licenses for Academic and Professional Editions of the product, including free full Academic and Professional Evaluation versions, can be requested by email at email or via other contact information found online at homepage The requested software is sent via email in a compressed form. A directory EMPerformance is extracted with executable file, a brief user’s manual, and an Examples subdirectory with examples of Touchstone files, png images, PDF documents and EM Performance Smith Chart .sch projects. I put 4 stars because you need to request a full evaluation version before you can appreciate all capabilities. Also you need to download a separate pdf creator to make pdf documents creations working. I have Windows XP and it works fine. Otherwise it looks like it is the best available that you can get online. As compared with DaVinci freeware it has a densier grid, and it can accept ALL kind of input matrices defined in Touchstone specifications, of arbitrary network, even incomplete 2-port S11,S21 inputs. PNG images are of very high quality and are of reasonable size. Also more color and thickness choice.
